Dolls House Scales

The first thing you need to know and one of the most important factors is thatdolls houses are built to standard doll house scales. That is they are built to a certain size so furniture and decorations can universally be fitted into them.

There are three standard scales for dolls houses in current use:

1/12th scale - The scale is 12 times smaller that real size. This scale is by far the most popular and most furnishings and dolls houses are made to this scale.

1/24th scale - The scale is 24 times smaller than real size. 1/24th scale is becoming more popular but there are far fewer furnishings available for this size doll house.

1/48th scale - The scale is 48 times smaller than real size. This scale is the newest scale that items are made in but it can be difficult to get a full range of items for this size dolls house and very challenging to work with.

Older Houses used to be made to 1/16th scale but this is no longer popular. If you have seen doll houses displayed in shops or on the Internet they are most likely in 1/12th scale but clarify this if you are not sure.

You can also opt to collect shops rather than houses or just room sets if space is at a premium.

Collectors dolls houses come in many shapes and sizes and are

designed to resemble homes from different periods in time.

The period your dolls house is from will shape your collection

and you could choose Victorian, Georgian, Tudor or Modern.
